AMD Radeon HD 7850 – 28/02/13
I’ve taken out my second 7850 from my crossfire system as I felt there was no benefit towards gaming. I noticed micro stutter and wanted to see how games would preform aesthetically and FPS wise. I tested battlefield 3 with crossfire and got 55-60fps on ultra (v sync on). Meanwhile, with a single card, FPS dips to about 47 during demanding renders. The card was still able to push out solid performance but was struggling in terms of ULTRA presets.
The 7850 performs worse than a 560ti in BF3, so I had to tone down the graphics to high presets. FPS was restored and reaches 50s when recording with fraps. In terms of future adjustments, I will be reinstalling the second card when the performance dips to 30s when I play on larger maps. For now, a single card means less power consumption and less noise and heat.
