Windows 7 Backup and restore – 18/02/14
The windows backup and restore tool only works when you don’t need it…
I changed the credentials for my NAS to be password protected, and it affected the restore function of Windows 7. Discovering the error today, I tried to practice restore files in preparation for a fresh installation of Windows 8N (UK version). It simply wont detect the backup, giving the message:
Windows was not able to find any backup sets on \\FREENAS
Frustrated, I was determined to find the solution.
To fix this, you have to use the Windows backup tool to create a backup within the same folder (same folder, do not create a folder within a folder). Cut the power to the NAS and the backup will stop giving an error. given this, power the medium back on and the restore files/folder from backup option will appear. Use that button and navigate to the original backup folder and the files should be available for restore. Hope this helps.
